A Message from the Superintendent

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year in Laurens County School District 55!

During this year, we will begin implementation of a three-year to five-year district strategic plan that will guide the future direction of our district.  Empowering and Inspiring All to be Educated and Informed is our new district mission statement developed as part of the strategic plan.  We hope this statement signifies the district’s desire for an all-in acceptance of the efforts in place to reach all students.

We have accomplished much in the last three years, even with the odds against us in some situations.  To those who embraced the “All Hands on Deck” way of thinking and working, I want to extend personal and professional appreciation; so many have done so much to impact and invest in our students.  During 2019-2020, we will continue our efforts of creating a new norm that ensures multiple pathways and opportunities to meet the needs of all students.

It is exciting to see the steady increase of scholarships earned by our graduating seniors.  In 2016, the graduating class of Laurens District 55 High School earned $4,329,316 in scholarships.  We saw this rise to $7,204,508 for our 2017 graduates.  2018 graduates earned $10,895,644.  At that time, we knew without a doubt that we were on the right course in helping our students achieve success.  At the time of this writing, the Laurens District 55 High School Class of 2019 has earned $12,652,166 in scholarships with additional awards anticipated.  To this end, we have set a goal of at least $15 million for those who graduate in 2020. With students, staff, parents, and community working together, we will achieve that goal.

We continue to make upgrades and adjustments throughout the district to ensure a safe learning and working environment for those within our facilities each day.  Some of the completed projects include the installation of fencing, secured gates and points of entry, installation of and upgrades to camera and alarm systems, improved lighting, and reconfigurations of some buildings.  These improvements and projects have been completed without using any local taxpayer money.  We will continue to monitor needs on a daily basis and will take the steps needed to provide the highest level of safety and security possible.

I encourage all parents to be involved in your child’s school, support their activities, and stay connected throughout the year. Please join your school PTA and other groups that provide involvement opportunities. If you need assistance from the administrative office, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Our office is located at 301 Hillcrest Drive in Laurens.  We can be reached by phone at 864-984-3568.
