Ameca C. Thomas, Ph.D.

Greetings Laurens 55 parents, guardians, students, and communities,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year in Laurens County School District #55.  It is with great enthusiasm that I continue my journey in Laurens 55 as Superintendent of Schools. I am honored and overjoyed to have the opportunity to guide the educational mission and serve the community in this new capacity. As your superintendent, I am committed to being student-centered, learner-focused, results-oriented, and community-connected.

My philosophy places a high value on cultivating systems for communication, collaboration, and supporting an academic culture that is focused on teaching and learning. I believe every child can learn and achieve at high levels. Our schools will work to support all students, meet the needs of all learners, and ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.

Again, I am honored to be the new superintendent of Laurens County School District #55, and look forward to partnering with our students, educators, families, and community to ensure we meet the district’s mission of Empowering and Inspiring all to be Educated and Informed.

I look forward to this opportunity to listen, learn, and partner with you. Together, we can increase educational opportunities for every child, every chance, every day, in every way.

I encourage all parents to be involved in your child’s school, support their activities, and stay connected throughout the year. Please join your school PTA and other groups that provide involvement opportunities. If you need assistance from the administrative office, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Our office is located at 301 Hillcrest Drive in Laurens.  We can be reached by phone at 864-984-3568.

Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R.)

D.E.A.R. stands for "Drop Everything and Read," a national celebration of reading designed to remind families to make reading a priority activity in their lives.

See photos from the event.

National D.E.A.R. Day is designed to remind people of all ages to make reading a priority activity in their lives.  D.E.A.R. programs are held nationwide on April 12 in honor of Beverly Cleary’s birthday. Beverly Atlee Cleary was an American writer of children’s and young adult fiction. One of America’s most successful authors,  91 million copies of Cleary's books have been sold worldwide since the first one was published in 1950. Becoming an enthusiastic reader is essential to being a lifelong learner.

On D.E.A.R. Day, LCSD 55 schools put aside all distractions and enjoyed books together for 10 minutes.
